Nia is a mother of four and is currently 7 weeks pregnant.* She and her partner have been together since they were teenagers and have built a life and family together. When she found out she was pregnant, it was a shock. Nia immediately began to worry about the future. Their financial situation had become difficult during her last pregnancy, and they barely managed to get by. Now with another baby on the way, Nia began to doubt whether they could afford it.

Due to some unpaid debt, her partner’s paychecks are being garnished every month. As they had more kids, this became more and more of a burden. Her partner recently had a severe mental health crisis, which put him out of work for 2 months. This single event ate up the majority of their savings, and rebuilding their finances has been an incredible challenge. Nia ended up getting a part-time job, but it barely helps with meeting their needs. Nia is not especially close with her family, and she has exhausted all the help they are able to offer. To make things worse, they make too much to qualify for many assistance programs but not enough to live on.

Faced with mounting fears about their ability to have another child, Nia ordered abortion pills. She kept them on hand and did not take them. It was not what she wanted to do. Looking for any other option, she found Let Them Live on Facebook. After looking into what we do, she reached out and made contact with our counselors.

“We are lucky to have anything left over at the end of the month, and we often visit the food banks,” she told us. Her financial situation is the only reason Nia has even considered abortion. Her family is happy and healthy, and she wants nothing more than to get back on her feet financially. She truly does not want to abort and knows that she would regret it forever. But her desperation has led her to pursue a path she never wished for herself. If we stand together and meet Nia’s needs, we can give her the confidence to do what she has wanted to do from the beginning: choose life for her precious baby.
