Siya* is a young mother of two who is 11-weeks pregnant. When Siya learned of the pregnancy, previous hardships began to resurface in her mind. Years ago, she endured a terrible drug-and-rape situation that left her traumatized. She tried to get help from the authorities and other legal resources, but ultimately received no help. After a string of failed relationships characterized by manipulation and abuse, Siya met her current partner. She hoped this time would be different. So, Siya worked up the courage to tell him she is pregnant with his child.

Tragically, his reaction was worse than Siya ever expected. Almost immediately, he began intensely pressuring and manipulating her to get an abortion. Aware that Siya lost her job and is terrified of being evicted, he has offered to pay her past-due rent — but only if Siya listens to him and aborts their baby. He even picked out the clinic and secretly began making Siya’s travel arrangements. Now, Siya feels backed into a corner. She knows in her heart that he’s being manipulative and self-serving, but believes if she gives in to his demands, maybe he will keep her and her kids from becoming homeless.

Then, Siya was served with an eviction notice and panicked. Her past trauma resurfaced again, and Siya reached the point where she started looking into abortion procedures. Despite this, Siya knows deep down that she doesn’t want to abort her baby. She began desperately seeking out any possible resource that could help her choose life. But when local and government resources failed to provide real help, Siya felt forced to choose between abortion and homelessness. Heartbroken, she contacted her boyfriend and scheduled an abortion for Friday, August 18th.

Fortunately, Siya found Let Them Live through social media around the same time and made contact with our counselors. She wants nothing more than to pay what she owes, secure her housing, and choose life. She told our counselors, “In my normal life, I would keep my baby.” Siya’s fears about being on the streets with her kids has led her to pursue what was once unthinkable.
