“Irene” is a young mother of one and has a desire to go back into the medical field.* She overcame many trials in her life to get to where she is now, including a period of homelessness. When she received news of her pregnancy, she immediately recalled all that she had overcome and began to fear it would all come back.

Irene has a full-time job, but when the pregnancy began, her morning sickness increased. It became so severe that she had to cut down her hours significantly. She is afraid that the more she does this, the more likely she will lose her job. The loss of hours has prevented her from paying rent and covering other living costs. Irene is afraid that she will receive an eviction notice any day.

As if these burdens were not enough, Irene has no support from anyone. She does not have any family, and the baby’s father severed contact and moved on when she told him the news. With the constant fears about her situation becoming unbearable, Irene began to consider abortion. Though this is not something she ever wanted to do, her fears became too much, and she reluctantly scheduled an abortion on April 1st.

When she left the clinic, she was stopped by a sidewalk advocate and was told about Let Them Live. Having exhausted all other ways to obtain financial support, she decided to make contact. When she began speaking without counselors, she said, “I don’t believe in abortion, but I have no other choice. If I had emotional and financial support, I could have my baby.”
