Malia currently works full-time and Paul was recently offered a full-time job (he is also the father of Malia’s other child). Despite their income levels, rising costs of living have made it extremely difficult to rise above living paycheck-to-paycheck. In addition to this, Malia and Paul helped foster Malia’s three younger siblings after they all escaped an abusive household. Their financial support for all of them has gradually pulled Malia and Paul into debt, which has left them struggling.
To make matters worse, Malia and Paul are in the ALICE category of households (asset limited, income constrained & employed). They make enough that they can’t receive government assistance, but not enough to make ends meet. Sadly, many of the parents we help here at LTL fall into this category.
Malia and Paul don’t want to abort, and his family would support them keeping the baby. But both of them aren’t able to see how they could rise above their current situation. Reluctantly, Malia scheduled an abortion. When she went to the appointment, the clinic determined that she was too early in her pregnancy for an abortion. Malia left and promptly scheduled another appointment for December 22nd.
Around this time, she discovered Let Them Live on social media. She sent us a message and was soon speaking with our counselors. When she described her situation and the reality of getting an abortion, she said, “I don’t know how I would mentally and emotionally handle it.”
Malia is an incredibly loving and capable woman who does not want to abort, but feels that it is her only choice. All she wants is financial stability so she can continue to provide for her family. If we stand together and help meet Malia’s needs, we can not only show her how much she is loved, but we can give her the confidence to choose life for her precious baby.
