Rachel first learned of her pregnancy while on the operating table at the hospital*. During surgery prep, doctors gave her the life-changing news. “Honestly, I was shocked,” Rachel said later. The surgery was called off — then, as Rachel drove home from the hospital, her car was badly damaged in a hit-and-run accident.

To make matters worse, recently Rachel tragically lost both her father and grandmother, her only stable sources of emotional support. When Rachel told her boyfriend she was pregnant, he accused her of lying and blocked her number. Further, Rachel’s health complications have made it impossible for her to keep working. Her job was physically demanding, and the near-constant pain stemming from her health problems caused her to lose employment. Now, Rachel is jobless, without transportation, behind on rent, hurting, and alone during the holidays.

Deep down, Rachel wants to keep her baby. But the stress and trauma of her circumstances felt like too much for her to bear. With no support from family or friends—feeling desperate and defeated—Rachel scheduled an abortion for January 2.

Fortunately, not long after, she went on social media and discovered Let Them Live. She didn’t believe it could be real but felt compelled to reach out. Rachel teared up as she described her situation to our pregnancy counselors. Like so many in her position, Rachel wants to be a mom, but her circumstances have made her believe there is no other way but abortion.
