The baby’s father has been a back-and-forth presence in Serena’s life. He told her that he was fine with her having the baby, but he is also emotionally abusive and cannot be relied on for any kind of help. She recently experienced loss in her family, which has only added to her feelings of being alone. Serena also lost her job suddenly, which has kept her from keeping up with car payments, rent, and other bills. As if all of this was not stressful enough, she has a limited amount of time left at her apartment before she is evicted. All of these trials overwhelmed her to the point where she began considering abortion. Before everything happened to her, abortion would have been unthinkable. But facing eviction, job loss, and difficulty paying for basic needs led her to think that abortion was the only option. With great reluctance, Serena scheduled an abortion on Tuesday, Saturday, June 8th. Soon after she made the appointment, a distant relative told her about Let Them Live. After looking into what we do, Serena decided to make contact with us.
“If I don’t abort, I’m afraid that my children will suffer and that I will not be able to keep a job,” Serena told our counselors. Sadly, this is an all-too-common experience for moms in Serena’s position: she does not want to abort, but fears that she has no other choice. It does not have to be this way. Together, we can help her do what she truly wants to do. If you stand with us, we can support Serena by meeting her needs and giving her the confidence to choose life for her precious baby.
