Vera is a recent high school graduate with aspirations to further her education.* She started to believe she was pregnant when she began experiencing sickness on a regular basis. When she officially confirmed it was true, it did not shock her as much as it scared her. The father, however, was truly shocked, since he believed he was infertile. Though he claims to support whatever decision she makes, he has largely abandoned Vera, and she cannot trust him to be there for her.

This feeling of being alone also applies to her family. She lives with her brother and grandmother, but cannot bring herself to tell them about the pregnancy. To make things more difficult, she used to have a job, but her morning sickness led to her being fired. She does not have a car, so finding another job has proven to be especially hard. This situation has truly crushed Vera and made her feel even more lost.

Without a place of her own, a job, a car, or the necessary emotional support, Vera scheduled an abortion. She lives in California, where it is easy to get a free abortion, and one of her friends even offered to drive her. Around the same time, another friend of hers referred her to Let Them Live. She told our counselors, “I don’t know how I am feeling. I’m scared. I keep telling myself that if I try to go through with it, it’s going to be too hard. If I go through with the abortion, I could go and it will all be over.”

In spite of her circumstances, Vera does not want to abort. She wants nothing more than a place of her own, a car, a job, and the emotional support she has been missing. Together, we can help Vera get back on track so that she can provide for not only herself, but her unborn baby. We can meet her needs and give the assurance that she is not alone and give her the confidence to choose life for her precious baby.

Here are the expenses that our crisis pregnancy counselors identified so that Vera can confidently carry her pregnancy to term:
Housing + Utilities | Transportation | Pregnancy and job / financial counseling | Other Related Expenses
Note: These expenses may be adjusted in the future based on additional expenses incurred during and after her pregnancy. With your help, we can save Vera and her 9-week baby from abortion! Donors will receive updates on Vera and her baby throughout and after her pregnancy.
